Each first Thursday night of the month, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Readytex Art Gallery opens her doors for a special exhibition or activity, known by now as the Thursday-Night-Feature.

At the Thursday-Night-Feature on June 2nd, Readytex Art Gallery welcomes yet another artist in residence of the Tembe Art Studio (TAS) in Moengo, Marowijne, Suriname. The presenting artist this time around is the Dutch artist Feiko Beckers who will treat the public to a presentation of the interesting work that he is currently doing in Moengo.

Feiko Beckers (1983) is a visual artist who works mostly with video, performance, installation and text. He has a very unique way of working and his very own style. Other than as an artist, he also describes himself as a philosopher, and says that banality is his specialty. In his performances and films he zooms in on everyday phenomena and transplants them into a theatrical setting. In Moengo his curiosity was piqued especially by the many unfinished houses all around. These, together with the conversations he has had about them with the people from the area, served as the inspiration for the installation he is currently creating in Moengo.

Feiko Beckers has been writing on his blog about his artist’s residency in Moengo. Check out www.fieldeye.org. What Feiko says about his blog posts: “When two people speak different languages there is often confusion. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it causes an irreversible faux-pas.” His blog is very worthwhile reading material.

On June 11, 2016, 05:00pm, Feiko’s work will be presented in Moengo, at the airstrip. Bane and Marvin helped Feiko with the construction. Made possible by the Mondriaan Fonds. / PHOTOS Marcel Pinas, 2016
