The next exhibition of the ALAKONDRE: A Space in Time project at Readytex Art Gallery (RAG), will open on April 9, 2022. Within this one-year project at the gallery together with artist and curator-in-residence Miguel E. Keerveld, other artists also receive the opportunity to fill the curator’s role. This time, it is visual artist Kurt Nahar who is the designated curator-in-residence, and who is responsible for the concept and the design of the new group exhibition INGI STEN, which opens for visitors on Saturday, April 9^th, 2022.

The idea for this exhibition came to Kurt Nahar when he discovered, during talks with colleague Miguel E. Keerveld about among other things, alakondre, inclusivity and identity, that they both have Indigenous blood streaming through their veins. This piece of information put him to thinking and motivated him to dedicate the upcoming exhibition to this group of Surinamese citizens, who are rarely given the attention they deserve. As ‘local master’ he chose an artist who has always and emphatically done exactly this, but who sadly enough, is now with us only in spirit: Winston van der Bok († 2021). In the exhibition Nahar displays a number of carefully selected artworks by this special artist, and unique art installations which he created with objects and attributes from Van der Bok’s home. He also includes works by other artists, featuring Indigenous themes as well, in the exhibition to which he gives the title: INGI STEN (Indigenous voice). It is a group exhibition in which Kurt Nahar pays tribute to the Indigenous and in which he utilizes the creativity of visual artists from diverse origins and backgrounds, to give them a platform and a voice. A voice that is too seldomly listened to, then and now. INGI STEN is also an exhibition in which spirits speak. Because the spirit of Winston van der Bok, but also the spirits of the Indigenous ancestors, speak loud and clear through the artworks displayed throughout the exhibition. The other artists whose works are featured, are: John Lie A Fo, Kenneth Flijders, Leonnie van Eert, Rinaldo Klas, Shaundell Horton, Sri Irodikromo and guest artists Orpheo Robert and Pierre Bong A Jan.

De eerstvolgende expositie van het ALAKONDRE: A Space in Time project in Readytex Art Gallery (RAG), opent op 9 april 2022. Binnen dit project welke de galerie een jaar lang uitvoert in samenwerking met kunstenaar en curator-in-residence Miguel E. Keerveld, krijgen ook andere kunstenaars de gelegenheid om de curatorsrol te vervullen. Het is beeldend kunstenaar Kurt Nahar die deze keer als curator-in-residence de verantwoordelijkheid draagt voor het concept en de inrichting van de nieuwe groepsexpositie INGI STEN, die vanaf zaterdag 9 april te bezoeken is.

Het idee voor deze expositie ontstond bij Kurt Nahar nadat hij in gesprekken met collega Miguel E. Keerveld, over onder andere alakondre, inclusiviteit en identiteit, te weten kwam dat zij allebei ook Inheems bloed door hun aderen hebben stromen. Dit gegeven bracht hem aan het denken en motiveerde hem om de aankomende groepsexpositie te wijden aan deze groep Surinamers, die niet vaak genoeg op de voorgrond geplaatst wordt. Als ‘local master’ koos hij een kunstenaar die dit wel altijd zeer nadrukkelijk gedaan heeft, maar die er nu helaas alleen nog maar in spirit is: Winston van der Bok († 2021). Nahar toont in de expositie enkele zorgvuldig gekozen werken van deze bijzondere kunstenaar en maakt unieke kunstinstallaties met objecten en attributen uit diens huis. Ook van andere kunstenaars zijn er werken waarin inheemsen belicht worden, opgenomen in de tentoonstelling die hij noemt: INGI STEN. Het is een groepsexpositie waarin Kurt Nahar de inheemsen eert en hen middels de creativiteit van beeldende kunstenaars van uiteenlopende afkomst en achtergronden, een platform biedt en een stem geeft. Een stem waar in het verleden en in het heden, helaas te weinig naar geluisterd is en wordt. Tevens is INGI STEN een expositie waarin spirits spreken. Want de spirit van Winston van der Bok, maar ook de spirits van de Inheemse voorouders, spreken krachtig door de kunstwerken die er tentoongesteld zijn. De overige kunstenaars van wie er werk in de expositie te zien is, zijn: John Lie A Fo, Kenneth Flijders, Leonnie van Eert, Rinaldo Klas, Shaundell Horton, Sri Irodikromo en gastkunstenaars Orpheo Robert en Pierre Bong A Jan.
