What: Thursday-Night-Feature (TNF) – (Facebook Event): Presentation by Heike Tjepkema, a guest artist from the Netherlands

On the 5th Thursday-Night-Feature (TNF) in Readytex Art Gallery (RAG) for this year you will be able to enjoy a presentation of Heike Tjepkema, a guest artist from the Netherlands, introduced to us by artist René Tosari, with whom she is working on a joint project for the near future.
Heike Tjepkema lives and works in Amsterdam, Senegal and Gambia. She makes art installations, videos and animations. The environment plays an important role in her work. The artist is currently in Suriname to, among other things, do research for her future project with René Tosari and to create work. She has a longstanding relationship with René and in 2014 the two made an animated movie called ‘Mi sa singi a son opo kon’. The new project, which is still in its concept phase, has the temporary working title Tosari and friends. The original idea is to make an exhibition with several artists, in Suriname as well in the Netherlands. The crossover of ideas could become a point of departure. During her stay in Suriname Heike Tjepkema and René Tosari will continue working on the project plan.
During the TNF of May 3rd Heike will give some insight into the initial ideas for this project, and she will also introduce the visitors to her own work. She will talk about her soon to be published book Alles lijkt wat het is, a graphic novel that contains drawings, sketches and paintings with in the sidelines a story that consists of random thoughts, poetry and fragments from e-mails that she exchanged with friends over the past 3 years. In a digital presentation Heike will show images of her works and a short video. She will also read short fragments from her book.
On this TNF you can also, as always, enjoy the varied collection of artworks on display throughout the entire gallery. The doors of Readytex Art Gallery will be open for this TNF on May 3rd, from 07:00-09:00 pm and Heike Tjepkema’s presentation starts at07:30 pm.
Op de 5de Thursday-Night-Feature (TNF) van dit jaar in Readytex Art Gallery (RAG) kunt u genieten van een presentatie van Heike Tjepkema, een gastkunstenaar uit Nederland aan ons voorgesteld door kunstenaar René Tosari, met wie zij binnenkort een gezamenlijk project zal uitvoeren.
Heike Tjepkema woont en werkt in Amsterdam, Senegal en Gambia. Ze maakt ruimtelijke installaties, video’s en animaties. De omgeving speelt een belangrijke rol in haar werk. De kunstenares is momenteel in Suriname om zich onder andere te oriënteren op het toekomstige project met René Tosari en om hier werk te maken. Met René maakte zij in 2014 een animatiefilm genaamd ‘Mi sa singi a son opo kon’. Het nieuwe project is nog in de conceptfase en heeft als werktitel ‘Tosari and friends’. Het oorspronkelijke idee is om met enkele kunstenaars een expositie te maken zowel in Suriname als in Nederland. De ‘crossover’ van ideeën kan daar een uitgangspunt voor worden. Tijdens haar verblijf in Suriname zullen Heike Tjepkema en René Tosari er verder vorm aan geven.
Op de TNF van 3 mei in Readytex Art Gallery vertelt de kunstenares in haar presentatie ook over haar eigen werk. Ze gaat vooral in op haar boek dat binnenkort verschijnt, genaamd Alles lijkt wat het is. Het boek is een ‘graphic novel’ oftewel tekeningen, schetsen en schilderingen met daarbij in de kantlijn een verhaal dat bestaat uit gedachtenflarden, poëzie en fragmenten uit e-mails die zij in de laatste 3 jaar heeft uitgewisseld met vrienden. Op de TNF zal Heike in een digitale presentatie beelden van haar werk en een korte video laten zien. Ook zal zij fragmenten voorlezen uit het boek.
Op deze TNF kunt u zoals gewoonlijk ook genieten van de gevarieerde collectie kunstwerken die door de gehele galerie heen tentoongesteld staat. Op de TNF van 3 mei zijn de deuren van Readytex Art Gallery open van 19:00-21:00 uur. De presentatie van Heike Tjepkema start om 19:30 uur.
